A family story

Since 1860

Château Gombaude-Guillot has more than 160 years of history and battles.

A fight to defend the specificities of our wines against the demands of fashion. But also a fight for respect for our terroirs, when we were the first to take the step towards organic farming, then biodynamic agriculture.

Our parents started organic farming in the early 1990s, out of conviction, at a time when this concept was just taking off.

We also defended the specificities of the terroir when the fashion for wine standardization required us to produce powerful wines with wood aromas.

Biodynamic wine?

So what is it?

Château Gombaude-Guillot, the very first Pomerol certified biodynamic, perfectly embodies the harmony between winemaking tradition and modern ecological practices.

The biodynamic management of the vine is first of all proximity to living things and careful observation of the terrain, which dictate dynamisation and impulse practices using natural preparations.

Pioneers such as Nicolas Joly popularized these methods in France in the 1980s. The observation is that they work, both on the revitalization of soils and on the nutritional quality of foods and of course on the intensity, precision and delicacy of flavors.

Château Gombaude-Guillot is committed to this path of proximity to living things which, beyond the non-use of chemical pesticides, respects biodiversity, sustainability and meets a requirement: producing ecological wines without harm.

Château Gombaude-Guillot spearheads viticulture that is more respectful of the planet, always serving an authentic and natural taste experience.

Pomerol is a prestigious wine appellation of controlled origin, located on the right bank of the Dordogne, near Bordeaux, France. This strictly delimited terroir (barely 800 ha in total!) is renowned for its exceptional red wines, dominated by the Merlot grape variety.

Viticulture in Pomerol dates back to Roman times, and its rich wine heritage has continued through the centuries. Unlike other regions of Bordeaux, Pomerol does not have an official classification system, allowing its winemakers to focus on the quality and individuality of the wines. The region’s terroir, characterized by surface gravel and deep clay soils, contributes to the depth and complexity of its wines.*

Iconic estates of the appellation, such as Pétrus and Le Pin, produce some of the most sought-after wines in the world

*“The vine, the wine, are great mysteries. Alone, in the plant kingdom, the vine makes us intelligible what the true flavor of the earth is. She feels, expresses through the cluster the secrets of the soil.” (Colette)
